Listening to the Farmers
IRRI
IS LISTENING TO WHAT THESE FARMERS HAVE TO SAY.
Rice farmers in the developing world traditionally conduct experiments
with their rice crops. Their experiments, and their evaluation of the outcomes,
are relevant and creative as any trials carried out by scientists. Economic
and even physical survival of the farmers and their families has been totally
dependent on such activities. Many of the case histories given here convey
their role as co-researchers--rather than as mere recipients of research
outcomes.
