Irrigated Rice Research Consortium

Research agenda

The Impact Workgroup conducts initial needs and opportunity assessments (NOAs, sometimes called participatory rapid appraisals or PRAs), monitors ongoing work, and evaluates adoption.
Its specific objectives are:

  • To work closely with thematic groups to assess farmer-prioritized real needs and opportunities, identify with farmers technology options and/or other solutions that meet their needs, help farmers and other stakeholders evaluate the solutions in the farms, plan for and implement the upscaling of successful technology options for wider adoption and impact
  • To conduct adaptive research and develop tools and training materials on delivery strategies for impact
  • To train the NARES trainers on delivery methods and planning and implementation strategies for impact (They in turn translate the materials into local language and train the extension and development professionals including the NGO and private sector staff)
  • To help assess and document the actual impact of project interventions in pilot sites

"If scientific findings are to have impact, researchers must apply their knowledge and insights according to the wisdom gained through reintegrating their research findings, and coordinating their outreach activities."
