Current & future research
In
General
- Facilitate communication of resource management strategies and tools
- Assist other work groups in building communication and delivery considerations into their work plans
- Assist the Coordinating Unit in the evaluation of IRRC achievements based on IRRC goals, efficiency, and effectiveness (at NARES level) as feedback to the Workgroups and IRRC in general
- As a component, improve farmers' resource management decisions by:
a) Identifying primary problems and opportunities facing farmers in target areas.
b) Developing research frameworks, tools, and methods for enhanced delivery.
c) Documenting farmers' current beliefs, attitudes, and practices in resource management (baseline).
d) Designing innovations for improving farmers' management decisions and evaluate them in the field using farmer participatory approach.
e) Developing/identifying the efficacy of communication delivery systems (delivery partners and technology packaging and presentation options) that will motivate positive changes in resource management decisions.
Planned activities for 2002-2004
1. Assisting the thematic groups
- Conduct of NOA and focused group discussion for Hybrid rice and other WGs on demand.
- Assist in the development of questionnaire for and conduct of baseline and post-intervention surveys for assessing impact.
- Assist in the planning and conduct of village level technology evaluation and assessing farmer feedback.
- Developing plans for upscaling of technology options for impact: Local stakeholder meeting, Message design workshop, Campaign design workshop, Management and monitoring survey for campaign dissemination, and Launching of the technology options.
- Identification of relevant researchable issues for communication to researchers.
2. Training and materials development
- Consolidation and documentation of NOA and survey reports of thematic groups.
- Development of delivery manual and other training materials.
- Development of 'blue prints' of impact planning and implementation for use in other sites.
- Assist in the training of stakeholders for different
WGs.
3. Scaling up and documentation of impact of promising technologies
- S. Vietnam: Integrated nutrient x pest management
(LCC, IPM, quality seed at low seed rate, drum seeding in rows).
- Indonesia: ICM (young seedlings, organic matter addition, LCC and balanced nutrient management, intermittent irrigation, etc.)
