Irrigated Rice Research Consortium

News & Events

There will be a series of meetings and activities from 27 September to 2 October 2005 in Myanmar to plan and prepare for the new phase activities. This will entail having an integration initiative identified and organized by the NARES to address the need to provide more opportunities for interaction and integration among work groups at a number of sites and the need to demonstrate accepted and proven technologies at a scale that involves more farmers.

Objectives

  1. Provide in-country training on techniques for an integrated research initiative that will focus on research and activities to be initiated at the next dry season (2005-06)

  2. Conduct a planning meeting to provide a forum for discussion of next phase activities in Myanmar

  3. Hold the first SC meeting to guide activities for the coming years

Expected outputs

  1. Plans for workgroup partnerships and activities in IRRC Phase III (2005-08)

  2. Approaches and plans for wider scale dissemination of technologies through partnership initiatives with NARES

Training on drying systems

A training on drying systems will be conducted in south Vietnam in cooperation with Nong Lam University on 10-21 October 2005. Participants will come from manufacturers and postharvest intermediary institutions in Myanmar, Lao PDR, and Cambodia. The training will help facilitate the transfer of appropriate drying technologies that are commercialized in Vietnam to neighboring countries.

Objectives:

  2. To build capacity in local manufacturing of critical components of appropriate drying technologies that can be locally produced

Planned outputs:

  1. Participants from postharvest institutions know drying systems that are being used by farmers, contractors, and millers in Vietnam and understand the conditions that are required for adoption.

  2. Participants from manufacturer  can produce the critical components of different drying systems.
